Finding info using Google: Is it right?

When you have to write a paper or learned something about a topic there is no doubt you’ll use the Internet as part of your research strategy. Pretty much everybody these days uses the Internet as a starting point for information gathering. It has become so common that everybody does it without even thinking about it. Over 15 years ago this was just not possible as the Internet did not exist as a place to find information. You had to go to the library or consult the encyclopedia or magazines to get info. But now we jump right into the search engines and try to figure out where this information exists on the Internet.This is an amazing advance in technology that allows us to gain access to much more information than we could 10 or 15 years ago. I can find an informational article on just about any topic I want to go to the Internet search on the keywords I’m interested in. This is the great part. The bad part is that there is no quality control over what you’re reading. The articles you’re finding have not been fact checked. In fact anyone can publish an informational article online with very minimal effort. Who is working hard only to show you those articles that are considered to be highly popular with the idea that more popular information is probably correct. But this is not always the case. It’s possible that every popular rumors that make it to the top of the search engines which are factually incorrect. While the Internet has brought ease of information retrieval to our fingertips, it has also created some negative side effects in that information may be wrong.
