The Quest for Affordable Health Insurance

Finding affordable health insurance is becoming increasingly difficult these days. I have worked for my current employer for 12 years and each year my company was able to provide health insurance for all employees at no cost to us. Each year, the premiums paid by my company would increase anywhere from 15-30 percent, putting a growing strain on the company’s employee benefits budget. To continue to be able to provide health insurance at no cost to the employees, my company often had to switch plans to find cheaper alternatives when annual premium increases were deemed to be excessive. Last year, our insurance plan premiums were due to increase by 32 percent when it came time to renew the plan. This forced my employer to finally require employees to contribute towards their annual health insurance premiums. I now pay $285 per month for family coverage after being fortunate enough to not have to contribute anything for the last twelve years.
