Testing for Gonorrhea
By admin | January 23, 2010
There are several types of gonorrhea tests that can be used to check for a gonorrhea infection. Most tests use a sample of body fluid from the infected area. One such test is a gonorrhea culture in which a sample is taken and then combined with a substance to promote growth of the bacteria. It also can help identify if the infection is resistant to any type of antibiotics. Another type of test is a gram stain in which the fluid sample is spread on a microscope slide and stained with a dye to identify the gonorrhea bacteria. A gram stain is not as accurate as a culture but it produces faster results.
