A Delectable but Healthier Menu

By admin | January 30, 2010

In this day and age, more people have become more health conscious about the food they eat at restaurants. It started years ago when Chinese restaurants in the west would inform customers that they don’t use MSG in preparing their dishes. Today, people also try to cut down on sodium. Sodium is a component of salt. It is also present in a lot of flavoring ingredients, processed meat and canned products. Sodium is responsible for raising blood pressure which may subsequently lead to a stroke. It has also been linked to stomach cancer and kidney problems.

Try to use fresh ingredients instead of canned or processed products. Use more garlic, onions, leaks and other intensely flavored vegetables and herbs to make up for the loss of flavor when cutting down on salt. Avoid using too much soy sauce, barbeque sauce and other sauces that are high in sodium content. If you have to cook with butter, use the unsalted kind. You can do your customers a favor by substituting traditional ingredients for healthier ones in your own restaurant.
